Our project explores the use of mobile, towable windmills in areas with fluctuating electricity demands. Battery storage will make the generators more practical and effective by preserving surplus energy for periods of low wind or high demand. The units can be relocated whenever local energy needs change, avoiding the cost of permanent infrastructure. They could support remote communities, temporary settlements, construction sites, and emergency operations. Their flexibility also creates opportunities for leasing and short-term energy-service contracts.

The business outlook for small and medium-sized floating windmills equipped with battery storage is promising. Government investment, successful offshore projects, and advances in energy storage all support the development of mobile, towable turbines that can serve regions with changing electricity demands.

The U.S. Department of Energy and other federal agencies have committed more than $950 million to floating offshore wind technology, including research into high-voltage direct-current transmission and hydrogen co-generation. This level of investment reflects strong institutional support for the industry.

Existing projects have also demonstrated the technology’s resilience. WindFloat Atlantic generated 80 gigawatt-hours of electricity and exceeded expectations despite severe offshore weather. Battery-storage projects such as Batwind have shown that electricity from floating turbines can be stored and released when demand rises, making production more reliable and useful.

Small towable windmills could extend these advantages to temporary settlements, islands, remote communities, construction projects, and areas experiencing sudden increases in electricity demand. Instead of waiting years for permanent infrastructure, customers could bring power directly to where it is needed.

The combination of mobility, wind generation, and battery storage creates a flexible energy system suited to a rapidly changing market.
